Parties are for meeting new people, but standing out from the crowd is hard. Here's how to use magic as your secret weapon for networking, making friends, and dating.
Walk up to a group or individual and say: "I need your help with something. Think of a number between 1 and 10. Don't say it out loud!"
Then do the simple math trick (ร2, +10, รท2, -original). Their answer is always 5.
Reaction: They've just participated in something fun with you. You're now a memorable stranger!
Ask a group to each pick a number. Have them all do the calculation. Everyone gets 5!
Say: "Wow, we're all connected! That's why you guys are friends." Works as a great group icebreaker.
Ask: "How old were you when you started school?" (Usually 5 or 6)
Have them do: Age ร 2 + 5 = result. When they tell you the number, you can calculate back to their age!
Write a prediction on a napkin: "Tonight you'll meet someone interesting."
Fold it and give it to someone. Later in the night, reveal it's about YOU: "Wait, I think I was the interesting person!"
Ask for someone's business card. Write something on it secretly. Make a prediction about them (industry, job, hobbies). Then reveal what you wrote.
Saying: "I wrote 'will be my next coffee meeting' - can I take you up on that?"
As you're leaving or saying goodnight, do one quick trick:
"One last magic trick before I go. Think of how you'd usually say goodbye... now add 'and we should do this again' in your head. Done? Good, because I was thinking the same thing. Here's my number..."
